CIS is
a place where elementary students from Kindergarten to Grade
5 study, learn, play, and support each other. Through a
safe and exciting learning environment, the school promotes
the students' social, emotional, physical, and academic
needs. The academic program consists of the core subjects
of Reading/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social
Studies. These subjects are taught by the homeroom teachers.
Each elementary classroom is self-contained, meaning that
each homeroom teacher is responsible for a single group of
children for the entire year. Music, Art, Physical
Education (PE), and Spanish enrich the elementary school
program and are taught by specialist teachers. Computer,
Library, and Guidance classes are integrated into the
regular instructional program and assisted by specialists in
these areas.
The
school day is from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm for students in Grades
3 to 5. Students from Kindergarten to Grade 2 attend school
from 8:15 am to 2:15 pm. Students are encouraged to bring a
healthy morning snack from home. Lunch can be ordered in
advance through the school or brought from home. A variety
of after school activities are offered to students during
the year. School and PE uniforms can be ordered through the
school.
Report
cards are issued four times during the school year.
Parent-teacher conferences are held each semester.
CIS is
a community of learners. Assemblies are held monthly to
bring students, teachers, and parents together for
celebrations of learning. Each assembly focuses on a
character education trait as our students are encouraged to
become compassionate and lifelong learners who are:
inquirers, thinkers, communicators, knowledgeable,
risk-takers, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced and
reflective. We are preparing our students to become
tomorrow's global leaders.
