Strategic Action Objectives and Plans

Strategic Planning is a process in which an organization engages in an open and honest examination of the components and issues of the organization and reaches agreement about the future focus of the organization through a consensus of people who represent various stakeholder groups of the organization. Here at CIS, we initiated Strategic Planning during the 2004 – 2005 school year. A Strategic Planning Council was formed that was comprised of students, parents, teachers, administrators, support staff, and Board members. This group worked on the development of a vision for the school based upon a set of core beliefs and our mission statement. It then established two five year objectives that include a means of measurement, and resulted in Action Plans that specify what needs to be done annually to meet those objectives. The Strategic Planning Council meets annually to discuss and evaluate our progress toward our goals. The specific objectives are identified below with links to the Action Plan for each.

Objective 1: By the year 2010, all Cayman International School grades K – 8 students will demonstrate improved academic performance in the core subjects of Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies as measured by:

  1. An average performance of 80% for the median percentile scores in the areas of reading, language arts, language mechanics in grades 2 through 8 on the ITBS (Iowa Test Basic Skills).
  2. An average performance of 80% for the median percentile scores in the areas of math concepts and problems, math estimation, and math computation in grades 2 through 8 on the ITBS.
  3. An average score of 90% in the mean score of the University of Chicago mathematics posttest at grades 1 - 8 as determined in 2004 - 2005.
  4. An average performance of 80% for the median percentile scores in the areas of social studies in grades 2 through 8 on the ITBS.
  5. An average performance of 80% for the median percentile scores in the areas of science in grades 2 through 8 on the ITBS.

Objective 2: By the year 2010, all Cayman International School grade 9 to 12 students will demonstrate preparedness for college and careers as measured by:

  1. Increasing points /average verbal and mathematics SAT scores using baseline data to be determined through the adoption and implementation of the SAT during the 2006 – 2007 school year.
  2. Increasing the percentage of 11th and 12th grade students enrolling in one or more AP (or enrichment) courses by 25% percentage points each year for two years, beginning in 2008 – 2009.
  3. The percentage of graduates who enter post-secondary education, either full-time or part-time, will increase by 20% using 2007 – 2008 as a baseline.
  4. An 80% increase in the number of hours all students engage in service learning.
  5. 100% student participation in at least one extra-curricular activity.

CIS' ITBS Scores for 2005-2006

These tests scores are used as baseline data for our Strategic Planning Objectives CIS recently took the Iowa Test in Basic Skills.  As a school and individually, our scores were very high, and we are proud of our teachers and students! The scores below are based on the National Percentile Rank (NPR).  This score shows the grades' ranks compared to other grades tested within the same year.  The number represents the grades' rank, with the 50th percentile being the national average.
