On Thursday, October 12 the CIS community packed the patio of Brooklyn Restaurant in Camana Bay to support the CIS students, teachers, and parents who performed at our first Open Mic Night. The vibe was really fun and exciting as we all enjoyed almost two hours of live music and spoken word. Students in grades 6-11 performed a wide variety of acts from piano solos to vocal solos and duets, to combo bands. A few teachers also stepped up to perform including a group of seven teachers from across three divisions. These ladies sang a hauntingly beautiful a cappella piece in three-part harmony.
We had a couple of great father-daughter duos, which we all really enjoyed. Some students also performed more than once, showing off singing and instrumental skills. At the end of the evening we had some open time, and it was amazing to see so many students jumping up to perform again!
We hope to have more open mic nights throughout this school year, and we want to see even more performers come out to share a performance or two. What a great way to come together and enjoy our amazingly talented students, teachers and parents! Special thanks goes to Shannon with the Market Street who helped us to connect with the manager at Brooklyn, and to Sean, Ronnie, and Alfredo, our maintenance team who helped move the sound equipment. Since it was our first time to host such an event off campus, we're excited to take what we've learned and continue to grow and improve the event. If you're interested in being involved with performing, organizing, or technical aspects, we look forward to hearing from you!
