Grade 11 students visited both the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Georgetown Landfill as they investigated current consumption trends of Grand Cayman. Students learned that 2.2 million gallons of wastewater is treated at the facility each day and that it is best NOT to flush dental floss down the toilet, as it ruins the machinery. Operations manager, Mr. Jerry Garner stressed the importance of treating the environment well, as we live on an island with limited resources. At the Georgetown landfill, students observed the recycling center and were surprised to learn that over 95,000 tons of trash is deposited in the landfill each year. Click here to learn more.
