CIS students, Jake A., Tabitha H., Stefano B., Sofia B., Gabriella R., Stephanie R., and Lila H. were all selected to represent the Cayman Islands at the 2019 Carifta Swimming Championships in Barbados over the break. The team was hugely successful with lots of personal best times, finals and medals. Some highlights included the following: Stefano B. won silver in the 5km open water race, qualified for CCCAN in the 1500m freestyle and achieved many personal best times. Gabriella R. won a bronze in the 200m butterfly. Stephanie R. was part of the 13 & 14-year-old 4 x 200m freestyle relay that broke a 2006 Carifta record and won a gold medal. Lila Higgo won gold in 200m, silver in the 50m breaststroke, 50m, 100mand 200m backstroke events as well as winning a bronze in the 11 & 12-year-old 4 x 100 m medley relay along with teammate Sofia B. (who also had many personal best times). Lila also tied for the High Point award in the 11 & 12 year age group. Tabitha H. was part of the 15-17-year-old relay team that won silver in 4 x 50m relay and bronze in the 4 x 100m free relay.
Ninth grader Abbie C. also represented the Cayman Islands at Carifta in Artistic Swimming, (more commonly known as Synchronized Swimming) along with 4 other teammates. The entire team did extremely well and Abbie came home with a gold medal for her Solo routine, gold for her Duet routine and gold for their Team Routine. Abbie also received a silver medal for Figures and received the overall High Point Award for her age group. Congratulations to all of our amazing athletes!
