Dear CIS community,
Welcome to the 2018/19 school year! CIS opened its doors this week to approximately 650 students from more than 30 countries, and our bright, beautiful campus is finally alive again! The summer months were spent in creativity mode as we engaged in design workshops with first-rate architects. At the same time, bulldozers and steamrollers moved forward with great haste as construction crews prepare to lay foundations. This same time next year, CIS will open a new Early Childhood building with an incredible progressive playspace, and in the fall of 2020 a stunning new High School building will welcome new students and increase school capacity to nearly 1100. We are thankful to our partners at Dart and the team from Decco construction for making this possible.
Even more important than the concrete being poured outside my window is the foundation of a cohesive 'Learning Culture' that CIS has been building. Our work to date is summarized here and we will continue to develop and excel in a mindset of continuous improvement. With a newly minted strategic plan, an updated mission, and a fresh new look (logo and branding), we are moving forward in the development of meaningful, effective systems that are impacting learning in positive ways.
This year, CIS is bringing our mission to life, and we begin by connecting in many different ways. You will see 'Connect | Inspire | Serve' (our mission tag) throughout the school as we focus on connecting learning, connecting people, and connecting with our local and global communities. In addition, as parents, now is the time to have a first look at our CIS Community Principles (page 6). The Kindness Principle, Partnership Principle, the Sustainability Principle and Good Intent Principle will serve as guides for all of us as we learn and grow together.
Heading into my 9th year at CIS, I am continually invigorated by new challenges and unique experiences on our wonderful island, and I am deeply grateful for the exceptional educators and wonderful people who I encounter every day in the CIS community. I have never been more optimistic about the future of CIS. Our school culture is positive and bright, our capacity is expanding with amazing new facilities, our identity has been strengthened by the work we accomplished last year, our definition of learning is concrete, our direction is clearly established by our principles and our strategic plan, and our Learning Culture is thriving.
It's going to be a wonderful school year!
