Cayman International School began as Faulkner Academy with high ideals in October of 1994. The school was purchased by International Schools Services (ISS) in 2002 and the name of the school changed to Cayman International School (CIS) in 2003.

CIS is a private, college preparatory, non-sectarian, co-educational school for students from two years old through Grade 12. It was established to provide an American/International educational program for the dependents of the multi-national professionals living in Cayman. The school buildings were provided through the generosity of the William and Claire Dart Foundation.

International Schools Service (ISS)

Cayman International School is governed by International School Services (ISS). Headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, USA, ISS is a nonprofit corporation dedicated to excellence for children attending overseas schools worldwide. Since 1955, ISS has grown into a dynamic educational force in the overseas community. ISS is the world's leader in providing a comprehensive range of quality educational services for schools, educators, families and corporations.

A Board of Directors established by ISS is responsible for decisions on programs, policies and finances at Cayman International School. An on-site director with an experienced staff conducts the day to day operations of the school, in partnership with an ISS home office executive.

The mission of ISS governed schools “is to provide a comprehensive college preparatory accredited American/International educational program that ensures all students will become accomplished learners of good character while serving as responsible leaders within a culturally diverse global community.”

ISS-governed schools follow a U.S. calendar, seek U.S. accreditation, and offer quality American and International standards based curricula and recognized exemplary instructional strategies.

The goal of ISS schools is to provide an educational environment in which students develop a healthy self esteem, learn self-discipline, acquire knowledge and achieve competencies in a number of skill areas. They will also gain an understanding of their national heritages while recognizing their membership in a larger world community.

Accreditation

Cayman International School strives to ensure that the education provided meets acceptable levels of quality as measured by several accrediting agencies.

The Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA) provides accreditation and school improvement services for American international schools overseas and in the Caribbean, as well as those in the Middle Atlantic region of the United States. CIS has received full accreditation through Grade 12 from the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) has authorized CIS to present the Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. Schools seeking to offer any of the IB programs must undertake a rigorous process called authorization, which is similar to accreditation, but with a focus on curriculum and teaching standards only. CIS received authorization to present the Diploma Programme in March, 2008.

The Office of Education Standards (OES) is the government body responsible for conducting independent evaluations of Cayman’s public and private schools. All (government and private) schools and early years centres are required to have regular full inspections. This includes further or vocational colleges and sixth forms. CIS was last inspected in 2022 and received the highest rating by the OES - Excellent. 

 

 

 

Cayman International School is a member of the American International Schools in the Americas (AMISA). AMISA's mission is to provide and promote programs and services to member schools whose primary language of instruction is English in order to enhance the quality of American and international education in the Americas.
