High School Principal Welcome
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year. Now that we are settled into our new home in the high school building, I am excited for what this year will bring. I know COVID still looms heavily in the minds of many and it is still significantly impacting our normal routines, but I am excited for our future. We were so fortunate last year to participate in a regular school year, and I am hopeful that we will experience the same this year.
In the next few weeks, we will continue to share information about opportunities available for students in the high school. We have implemented a new student information system (PCR) and the roll-out includes a new Parent Portal. Since re-enrollment was done through the Portal, most of you are familiar with the system, but it includes other features that will enhance communication. We will continue to provide updates on how to access this information.
We will welcome new students and families on-campus on Friday, August 20 at 8:00 a.m. in the high school gym. On Friday afternoon, we will email all high school students their schedules and homeroom teachers. Please note, this information will be posted to the new Parent Portal as well. School will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24. On Tuesday (the first day of school), all students will report to Period G (their first period class on Tuesdays). Back to School Night for the high school is on Thursday, September 9 at 5:30 p.m.
This year, CIS is hosting a BBQ to kick-off the school year. The Back to School BBQ and Bazaar is on Saturday, August 28 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. We will send more information about this great opportunity for the entire CIS community to come together and socialize. We will have school booths for activities, athletics, clubs, volunteer opportunities, and family resources. We are also inviting outside providers to attend the BBQ and share information about other ways students and families can get involved in the community.
It is always a pleasure to welcome new staff members, families, and students to our community. We have three new full-time teachers and two part-time teachers joining the high school. Nancy Shay and Natalie Vacirca will join the English department, Marcela De’Alessio will join the Spanish department, Jeff Diamond will teach a technology section, and Liz Parkinson will teach an art section. Throughout this school year, the staff will work together to support students, their learning, and ensure that we offer quality educational and extra-curricular programs. We believe that a successful educational program provides enriched learning opportunities for students in the classroom and through extra-curricular offerings.
I warmly welcome all students and families as we begin this annual journey together. I look forward to the learning, fun, and adventure. Through this annual journey, we will seek new possibilities and establish new memories.
