High School Updates
Dear High School Parents and Students,
Throughout this week, our High School teachers be updating their grades in PlusPortals to reflect a ’currently working at’ level in line with our CIS Grading Descriptors. The purpose of these “CWA” (the student is currently working at. . .) grades is to provide a snapshot of each student's performance and an opportunity to collaborate in helping our students develop ownership of their learning. These grades will be updated every two weeks to provide parents and teachers feedback on their current progress in each course. These updates should not be read as an average of grading but rather an indicator of their current level of performance in the course. Below is a schedule for the weeks in which parents and students can expect an update to their updated CWA Grade. We sincerely hope this helps to ensure clarity and develop partnerships in the learning of our students.
Dear High School Students and Parents,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. I hope this message finds you doing well and enjoying the final moments of summer. I am sure this summer and the past few months have been vastly different than planned, but I genuinely hope you have found time to rest and relax with family and friends. I am looking forward to the beginning of the school year and to a new journey filled with new adventures. Learning is always a journey that begins with incredible anticipation, and I am excited for this next journey to begin. We continue to experience significant growth and change at CIS, and I know many anticipate the opening of the new high school building. We hope to move into the building when we return from Winter Break. As CIS and the high school continue to grow, we are adding programs and educational options for students. These programming options and the new high school building are all clearly aligned to our mission, principles, and focus on providing a high-quality and well-rounded educational program.
It is a pleasure to welcome new staff members, families, and students to our community. This year we welcome a new assistant principal to the high school as well, Chad McGartlin. Mr. Chad and I will work together to ensure that we offer quality educational and extra-curricular programs that prepare students for success at CIS and into the future. A successful educational program provides enriched learning opportunities for students in the classroom and through extra-curricular offerings. We are focused on offering a curriculum that develops critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, and we will continue to develop programs that prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and character traits needed for success at CIS and into the future.
I warmly welcome all students and families as we begin this annual journey together. I look forward to the learning, fun, and to establishing new memories. I look forward to a great year and to watching all students develop their uniqueness and greatness.
CIS Students and Parents, the high school will begin the first period of each school day at 7:55 a.m. The added five minutes will give teachers the opportunity to conduct a brief health screening of each student prior to entering the classroom.
High school students must be dropped off and enter the campus on their own each day. Please refer to the school map for drop-off locations and times. To avoid congestion, it is recommended and strongly encouraged that high school students be dropped-off in Camana Bay and walk to the campus.
Grade 12 - Early Start
This is a reminder that grade 12 students will have an early start and review to the 2020-2021 school year. The grade 12 teachers are committed to starting early and to providing additional support that will ease the transition back to campus. Teachers will use the additional time to review summer work, review in general, or prepare students for IAs in their subjects. Please see the schedule below (there have been a few changes to the original schedule).
Grade 12 students – you do not need to wear a uniform during these meeting times, but you are required to wear a mask when on campus.
SAT - September 26
There is an SAT exam hosted by CIS on Saturday, September 26. The deadline to register for this session is Wednesday, August 26. This testing date is mostly intended to support grade 12 students and their application process.
This year, we will not host a student orientation and schedule distribution on-campus. We will email class schedules to all returning students, and all students will begin classes at 7:55 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26.
