MS Principal Welcome
Dear Middle School Families,
Welcome back to another new school year! I hope and trust that you and your children enjoyed a relaxing summer. For those new to CIS, I am Ben Calsbeek, middle school principal. We offer you a special welcome and look forward to seeing you at the New Student and Family Orientation for middle school on Friday, August 20th from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M. in the High School gymnasium. Our first opportunity to come together as an entire school community will be at our inaugural Welcome Back BBQ and Bazaar, Saturday, August 28th from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M.
While the calendar year changes, our sole responsibility and purpose does not. We exist to positively impact the lives of each child in our care via learning. We are wholly committed to this mission and use our Learning and Community Principles as our guides in all that we plan and do. While the main structures and features of our division look the same as last year, there are a number of improvements that we are excited to implement. For example, our STEAM and Arts programs continue to grow. In grade 6, a new course, Lego Robotics, will be offered to all students. In grades 7 and 8, Technology/STEAM and Visual Arts time has also increased for deeper learning. In addition, Drama has been added as an elective option in grade 7. These changes are a reflection of our continuous commitment to putting our principles into practice, always looking to improve where we can. Overall, our entire 2021/22 MS Learning Program is more aligned and connected than ever before. You can find every unit of study your child(ren) will engage in this year by taking time to read our Learning Program. I encourage you to do so at your convenience. Middle School Back to School Night is Thursday, September 2nd at 5:30 P.M. and this will be an opportunity to meet the teachers who help bring this learning to life.
In the coming weeks, we will share important information to both you and your child via our new student information system called PCR. From this one-stop portal, schedules, homerooms, grades, calendars, Google Classrooms, and more will all be accessed. Each child will receive an email from their Homeroom teacher on Friday afternoon, August 20th. This message will include important information concerning where to go on the first day of school. In the meantime, enjoy the rest of the waning summer holiday and feel free to reach out with any questions. See you soon!
