MS Principal Welcome

Dear Middle School parents,

Greetings at the dawn of a new school year! First, for new families and for those who do not know me, I’m Ben Calsbeek, the new principal of our Middle School. I look forward to seeing familiar faces soon and meeting new members of our community. We are very excited to reconnect with students, beginning what we hope will be the best school year that your son or daughter has ever experienced. This is our sincere goal, and you have our commitment to work tirelessly towards meeting it for each and every child in our care.

As you are well aware, CIS is begining the year under the Cayman Island Government’s Phased School Re-Opening Plan. While this plan is full of details that will impact you and your family, perhaps the biggest change is the staggered start for certain grade-levels. Under the plan, certain grades including 7 & 8 must remain off campus for the first two weeks of school while the other grades are on campus, including grade 6.

All Middle School Goals for Phased Reopening

While we will be separated as a division, we will be working on similar goals. The format and scope of our work will obviously look differently for those students on campus and those not. However, the following three goals for the first two weeks apply to our entire Middle School to create a sense of cohesion and connectivity by working towards a common purpose.

By spending our first two weeks together intentionally building community, reflecting, and taking ownership of our new policies and procedures, we believe we will be more successful as individual learners and as a school community in the long run. Success in our eyes means students learning and growing to their full potential. In short, we view this government policy as an opportunity that we will make the most of.

In Partnership,

Ben Calsbeek, Middle School Principal
